The Short Version

We call back and talk through it before anyone drives out, because sometimes the fix is a five-minute adjustment you can do yourself and sometimes it isn't.

Our shop is at 316 S Kalamazoo Mall, Kalamazoo, MI 49007, in the Central Business District. You're welcome to come in, but most of our work happens at the house, since that's where the door is.

When we do come out, we look at the actual hardware before quoting anything. A broken torsion spring on a door from a 1960s build is a different job than a worn opener gear on something newer, and pricing a repair over the phone without seeing the track, the rollers, and the spring size is how you end up back at square one. We'd rather take the extra ten minutes on site.

What We Will Not Do

We won't quote a repair price sight unseen over the phone for anything beyond the basics - springs, cables, and openers vary enough by door weight and age that a real number needs eyes on the hardware.

We don't do new home construction or framing work. If your garage opening needs to be built or resized, that's a different trade.

We won't tell you to replace a door that can be repaired just because replacement pays more, and we won't tell you to repair a door that's actually at the end of its life - a lot of the housing stock here dates to 1938 through 1993, median build year around 1969, and some of those original doors and the hardware bolted to them are worth retiring rather than patching again.

We don't carry every part on the truck for every door ever made. Older or less common hardware sometimes means a short wait on a part, and we'll tell you that up front instead of promising same-day when it isn't realistic.

We work throughout Kalamazoo's neighborhoods - Edison, Milwood, Oakland/Winchell, Northside, South Westnedge, Eastside, Westwood, Burke Acres, Crossroad Park, West Portage, and Woodbridge Hills among them - and out into the surrounding communities: Westwood and Eastwood at 3 miles, Comstock Northwest and Portage at 5, Galesburg and Richland at 9, Vicksburg, Schoolcraft, and Mattawan at 11, out through Plainwell, South Gull Lake, Augusta, Climax, Otsego, Hickory Corners, Lawton, Gobles, Paw Paw, Delton, Level Park-Oak Park, Waverly, Martin, Springfield, Bloomingdale, and Mendon toward the edges of the service area, roughly 20 miles out.

Across that area there are about 48,756 households and 23,763 owner-occupied houses, with a median household income around $70,051 - a mix that includes plenty of the older housing stock the region is known for, plus newer builds further out. Winters here sit in the severe end of the cold climate band, which is hard on torsion springs and weatherstripping alike no matter which side of town you're on.
